Open notes

Terms of Service

The terms for Open notes, the notes app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android, and its optional Open notes Cloud subscription, operated by A Good Life — the exact text shown inside the app.

Last updated 29 September 2026

These Terms of Service (Terms) are the agreement between you and A GOOD LIFE (we, us, our) for Open notes, our notes app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android, and for its optional paid feature, Open notes Cloud (together, the Service).

By signing in to or using Open notes you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.

1. What Open notes is

Open notes is a notes app. You write notes, keep them in folders and profiles, and file the links, @handles and #tags you copy elsewhere into them. Your notes live on your phone. With Open notes Cloud, a paid subscription, a copy is also kept on our servers so your notes are backed up and appear on every phone you sign in to.

2. Your account

  • You can use Open notes without an account: your notes then stay on your phone. An account is only needed for Open notes Cloud.
  • To have an account you need to be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract under the Indian Contract Act, 1872.
  • You sign in with your phone number and a one-time code sent over WhatsApp. If the number has no account yet, one is made for you. It is the same account you use for OPEN SLOT.
  • Keep your phone and codes to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • We may suspend or close an account that is used for fraud or abuse, or that breaks these Terms.

3. Your notes

Your notes are yours. We do not claim any rights in them and we do not use them for anything except running the Service for you.

If you use Open notes Cloud you give us permission to store your notes and to copy them between your devices, and nothing else. You are responsible for what you keep in your notes, and you agree not to keep anything unlawful in the cloud copy.

4. Open notes Cloud

Open notes Cloud is optional. Open notes works fully, on your phone, without it, and always will.

  • It unlocks Preferences (your own fonts, sizes, ruled notepad lines and clipboard settings), lets you add a photo and an email to your profile, and raises the number of profiles you can have from 5 to 10. Choices you already made, and profiles you already have, are kept if your subscription ends; you just cannot change your photo or email, or make new profiles past 5. Two settings work only while you are subscribed: Find the @handle of a reel, and Paste link previews into notes. If your subscription ends, links are saved as plain links again, and both settings come back into effect if you subscribe again. Preview pictures already in your notes stay there.
  • It backs up your notes, folders and profiles to our servers and keeps them in step between phones you sign in to with the same account. If two devices changed the same note, the newer change is kept; a note is never removed from one device just because it is missing from another, unless you erased it.
  • Your notes are merged when you open the app, after you make a change and when you tap Sync now. There is a fair limit on how much can be synced (currently about 10 MB of notes).
  • It needs an active subscription and a sign-in. If your subscription ends, syncing stops. Your notes stay on your phone.
  • The copy on our servers stays until you delete it (Profile, Billing, Delete cloud copy) or delete your account. You can delete it whether or not you are subscribed.
  • Sync is provided as it is. Keep your own backup as well: you can export all your notes from Settings at any time.

5. Subscriptions and billing

  • Open notes Cloud is an auto-renewing subscription of ₹199 per month, or the equivalent shown in the App Store or Google Play for your country, billed monthly. The price and period are shown on the Billing screen and again by the App Store or Google Play before you confirm.
  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID account (iPhone, iPad or Mac) or your Google Play account (Android) when you confirm the purchase. Apple or Google, not us, takes the payment: we never see your card, your Apple ID or your Google account details.
  • The subscription renews automatically each month at the same price unless you cancel in time: on iPhone, iPad or Mac at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, on Android before the renewal date. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • You can manage or cancel it at any time: on iPhone or iPad in your Apple ID settings (Settings, your name, Subscriptions); on Mac in the App Store (your name, Subscriptions); on Android in Google Play (Play Store, your profile picture, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions); or from Manage subscription on the Billing screen. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Open notes Cloud until the end of the period you have paid for.
  • Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, under its own rules; ask at reportaproblem.apple.com. Refunds for Google Play purchases are handled by Google, under its own rules; ask through Google Play. We cannot refund a payment Apple or Google has taken.
  • If we change the price, Apple or Google tells you and asks for your consent where it requires it; if you do not agree, the subscription simply ends.
  • Restore purchases (Billing screen) brings your subscription back on a new phone or after signing in again. A subscription belongs to one Open notes account.

6. Using the Service

  • Use Open notes only for lawful purposes and only for your own notes.
  • Do not try to break, overload, reverse engineer or get around the Service, and do not use it to attack or harm anyone.
  • We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Open notes on devices you own or control, under these Terms and the rules of the app store you got it from (the App Store or Google Play). The app, its design and its name belong to us.

7. Apple and Google

These Terms are between you and A GOOD LIFE only, not with Apple or Google. Neither Apple nor Google is responsible for Open notes or its content. If you got Open notes from Google Play, Google's terms for Google Play also apply to your download and purchases, and we, not Google, provide support for the app. If you got it from the App Store, the following also apply:

  • Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for Open notes.
  • If Open notes fails to conform to any warranty that applies, you may tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app (if any). To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for it. Any other claim, loss or cost about the app is ours to deal with, not Apple's.
  • Claims about the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer protection, and intellectual property claims, are between you and us. If a third party claims that Open notes infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for dealing with it.
  • You confirm that you are not in a country under a US government embargo or on a list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, once you accept them, may enforce them against you.

8. No guarantees, and limits on our liability

  • Open notes and Open notes Cloud are provided as they are and as available. We work to keep them running and your notes safe, but we do not promise the Service will always be available or error free, or that nothing will ever be lost.
  • To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profit or opportunity. Our total liability for a claim about the Service is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the three months before the claim.
  • Nothing here limits any right you have under law that cannot be limited, including consumer protection law.

9. Ending your use

You can stop using Open notes at any time: sign out, cancel your subscription, delete the cloud copy, delete your account (Profile, Delete account) and delete the app. We can suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or if the law requires. Sections that by their nature should continue to apply after that will continue to apply.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. We will post the new version in the app with a new date, and tell you about changes that matter. If you keep using the Service after that, you accept the update.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Please write to us first so we can try to sort a problem out informally. The courts in New Delhi have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any consumer protection law that gives you the right to go elsewhere.
